Among the many options you have for creating a personal Web page, also known as a landing page, Flavors.me (Free, or $20 with extra options) stands out at the best choice today. When it comes down to the basics, Flavors.me is like most of its competition?it's there to facilitate a landing page with a big beautiful background image and links to go with?but it has more options to go along with the simplicity, so you can get as complicated as you want as you build your online destination. Plus, even if you pay, it won't hurt your wallet too badly.
Flavors.me comes in two flavors. The free version offers seven layouts and gathers content from up to five services. That's more than enough for most. However, a paid version for $20 a year includes 17 layouts, 222 font choices, links to unlimited service, domain-name support, real-time traffic stats, and several more features. Once you've created an account, you can log in using a Facebook, Google, or Yahoo account (whatever is linked to your landing page).
Customization
You're not stuck with just the look Flavors.me provides since you can customize any of the layouts. Designing the page is a simple matter of accessing the Design drop down menu while you're on your Flavors.me account. A change in layout or font is instantly reflected on the site for you to accept or reject. However, it's hit or miss as to how well the layouts and fonts work with your graphics. Trial and error and patience may be required to get it just right. Click the "Community" link and you'll get a page with lots of examples you can emulate.
Promotion
Naturally, you can link your personal Webpage just about any service on the Web?including Facebook profiles, Facebook Pages, Twitter, Blogger, Wordpress, Typepad, Posterous, Netflix, Vimeo, YouTube, Flickr, Digg, Etsy, Foursquare, and others?because that's the whole point. Drop in an RSS feed, too. If Flavors.me doesn't automate the link, you can create your own, getting a generic icon to go with it. There's even support for map links, which display a zoom-able Google map.
Extras
The extra options you get with the paid version are so varied that you probably won't need them all, but at only $20 a year, they're worth at least a try (and you get your money back if you cancel within 90 days). You can pay via Google, PayPal, or Amazon accounts. The extras include real-time stats, a contact form, a mobile version of your site for smartphone access, a customizable favicon to show up in browser address bars, and, perhaps best of all, a custom domain name that points to your page, which is included in the cost. You can also go with a domain you already have registered, or the flavors.me/username address provided automatically for all accounts. A Flavors.me landing page looks pretty good on a smartphone, too. When you pay, all of these options show up in the Design menu.
Free and paid accounts get access to the "social stream" feature, which is like an RSS reader for all the social goings-on of your friends. It's one of those features you probably don't need and probably won't use, but it's at your disposal. And one other nice extra: if you're totally sick of having a Flavors.me page, they let you delete the whole account.
Small businesses may want to consider Sidengo instead, but individuals will appreciate what's available with Flavors.me. It stays ahead of the more immediate completion from AOL's About.me with the extras it offers. Flavors.me is a fantastic, easy-to-master option for creating an affordable and great looking personal landing page, with or without paying for it. Flavors.me is our Editors Choice for personal Web page creation.
